May 2011 Tour in Italy with Sauro
Amalfi Coast and Tuscany
Last May I had the pleasure to escort a small group of 6 people for an exclusive Trip to Italy. We visited Rome, Amalfi Coast and most of the cultural centres of Tuscany. In Rome we went around with my friend and business partner Toni that suggested us the best Trattorias for original Roman meals (Carbonara and Amatriciana spaghetti).
My friends Giampiero and Tonino offered us a completely different view of the Amalfi Coast area. Tonino was a great host at his beautiful and comfortable B&B in Sorrento and we will never forget the nutella-cappuccino that Michele was serving every morning for breakfast under the lemons trees on the patio. Giampiero
drove us across the less touristy places of the coast introducing us to his own local favorite restaurants and make us feel part of his lifestyle and culture.
In Tuscany we drove around Val D’ Orcia and Crete Senesi visiting Montepulciano, Pienza, Siena and many small medieval villages without missing a wonderful time by the swimming pool with Roberto’s wine and the food prepared
by my mom and my sister. I cooked as well for everybody several times. Every morning a huge “frittata” was on the table with thin sliced prosciutto and Pecorino di Pienza cheese. One night I made “porcini” mushrooms risotto, another time tagliatelle with chickpeas and prosciutto! I tried my best in explaining my recipe’s preparation but everybody finally agreed that my cooking is way better than my English!
In this Tour we really enjoyed wonderful views, the best wine and food (as usual!) and we had the pleasure to meet incredible people!
We had a blast ! A small group like this is always a guarantee for a successful tour!
Villa Il Cornino ( Radda in Chianti ) our accommodation in Tuscany
Villa Il Cornino di Radda in Chianti is a traditional stone villa set in a stunning elevated location on a family estate. Surrounded by endless rows of vines and woodland, it is a perfect refuge to relax and unwind in. The villa has two independent apartments, one with 5 bedrooms and one with 4 bedrooms. The villa is only 4kms from the charming Tuscan town of Radda in Chianti which has shops, supermarkets, banks, chemist and restaurants.
Outside the garden wraps around the house and has panoramic views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside. The grounds are mainly grass with mature trees providing welcome shade during the hottest part of the day.
The arched entrance has doors to both the ground floor and two staircases leading up to the first floor; there are terracotta tiled floors and tiled and beamed ceilings throughout. The ground floor has the advantage of having more than one kitchen, which is very useful if more than one family are sharing the house.
The door on the left opens into a kitchen/dining room with table and chairs, cooker, fridge and open fireplace. There is also a double sofa bed in this area.
The door on the right hand side takes you into a small hallway which has doors to a bathroom with shower and straight ahead takes you into a bedroom suite with twin antique style iron beds with an arch through to a lounge/dressing area. The ensuite bathroom has a shower, basin and WC; and this is also where the washing machine is located.
Agriturismo “Il Serraglio” (Montepulciano-Tuscany) our accommodation for May Tour
To explain the beauty of this place and the charming of Roberto and Manuela, the property owners, there’s nothing better than reading the reviews of some of the many clients we send there in the last 7 years:
My husband and I and 2 other couples stayed 3 days at Il Serraglio in Montepulciano. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the accommodations, the location and the incredible hospitality we were shown. We shared 2 well equipped, clean and very traditional Tuscan cottages, we ate delicious fresh picked figs and grapes everyday and our host, Roberto, brought us coffee and cornetto every morning. We had a wine tasting in his ancient wine cellar – his wines and olive oil are second to none! He took us on a fabulous day tour of the gorgeous Val D’Orcia area and when we returned that evening his wife and friend showed us how to make homemade Tuscan pasta and it was great.
He sat at the table with us and ate and we talked all evening. It was an experience we will never forget! I highly recommend this agriturismo.

We just returned from a week in Montepulciano Tuscany where we stayed at the Agriturismo Il Serraglio. We spent a week in one of the one bedroom apartments which are offered on the amazingly beautiful property. Lots of wine groves, fruits trees and olive groves as well as a fabulous swimming pool with an even more fabulous view.
We loved Roberto, and his lovely wife who were outstanding hosts.
Roberto gave us many tips on where to go for our day trips as well as where to eat some of the best Italian food we have ever eaten. We loved our apartment which we found very well equipped with all we needed for our weeks stay. We met some wonderful people who were also staying in the other cottages from the Netherlands. We made some new friends.
We will most definitely go back again before the next 2 years are up. Roberto spoke wonderful English and great German. If you want to stay at a place where you can really experience the Tuscan way of life as well as the spectacular scenery, then you need to stay at Il Serraglio.
The property is in a great location with easy access of all roads leading to the many villages and towns in the Tuscany hills. As well as Sienna and Florence to the North.
Try the Il Serraglio wines and olive oil, you’ll never taste better.
Thanks Roberto. We had the best vacation ever.
We will be back.
